This summer, we visited Sarah Lennon at her beautiful home, the Burren House. Nestled at the foot of the Burren in County Galway, this idyllic family home home is surrounded by a truly sensational landscape. Rugs feature throughout the space, carefully placed to draw together Sarah’s furnishings and elevate the sense of serenity and connection that defines the home.
We were delighted to shoot some of our favourite pieces in Sarah's beautiful home, where the minimalist furnishings, open plan design and gentle lighting offered the perfect backdrop.
A Home in Dialogue with Its Landscape
The Burren House Project is a contemporary, Scandi-inspired home that mirrors the rhythm of the west coast. The house captures the changing light as it moves across the kitchen, dining and living spaces. Tones evolve from a gently lit softness to honey and gold as the sun sets. The result is a home that feels both understated and warm, with a sense of deep connection with the surrounding landscape.
Every element of Sarah's home has been chosen with intention, creating an interior that feels calm, balanced and grounded.
The Importance of Rugs at the Burren House Project
Sarah’s view on the role of rugs in her design philosophy is simple:
“A good rug has the ability to elevate a room from functional to quietly lived-in, adding warmth underfoot, softening the acoustics and drawing you into the space.”
In the heart of the living space lies the Nordic Flair White rug, a timeless piece that adds texture and softness to the polished concrete floors and elegant furniture. Sarah also chose the Rugs.ie x Geri Designs Ogham Runner for her walk in wardrobe. Both pieces are made from natural materials, something that is central to Sarah's design approach.
The Shoot at Burren House
We were delighted to photograph a selection of our favourite rugs within this beautiful space, choosing natural materials, minimalist designs and soft palettes to suit the home’s décor.
Among the pieces featured were rugs from our Strand Collection, our own collection, inspired by Ireland’s treasured landscapes. Against the Burren’s distinctive landscape, the muted patterns felt entirely at home. We also styled a selection of authentic vintage and Persian rugs, including a gorgeous Moud Mahi. The intricate motif and fine detailing in this piece introduced a sense of depth and heritage, weaving elements of history and tradition into this contemporary setting.
As the afternoon sun moved across the limestone hills, the rugs caught the changing light - absorbing warmth and casting soft, shifting shadows that played gently across their patterns. It was a quiet expression of the craftsmanship behind these pieces, perfectly reflecting our shared love of quality furnishings and natural materials
